The Ultimate 2026 Tesla Delivery Day Checklist (Free Tool + PDF)

The wait is finally over. You’ve refreshed the app a thousand times, and your delivery date is finally here. Whether you are picking up a Model 3, Model Y, or the new Cybertruck, the excitement is real.

But before you drive off the lot, there is one critical rule you need to know: The Tesla "100 Mile" Rule.

Tesla’s warranty policy generally requires that cosmetic defects—like paint scratches, panel misalignments, or glass chips—must be reported within 24 hours or 100 miles of delivery. If you miss them on Day 1, you might be stuck paying for them on Day 2.

To help you navigate this (without the stress), we built the Jowua Delivery Day Companion—a free interactive tool that guides you through the inspection process step-by-step.

Why You Need a Checklist (Even in 2026)

Tesla’s build quality has improved drastically over the years. The "panel gap" horror stories of 2018 are largely a thing of the past. However, because Tesla manufactures at such a high volume, issues can still slip through the cracks.

Common issues we still see in 2026 include:

  • Paint imperfections (swirls or chips from transport).

  • Interior trim issues (loose seat stitching or misaligned dash panels).

  • Tech glitches (USB ports not connected or charge port doors sticking).

You don't need to be a mechanic to find these. You just need a plan.

The Solution: Our Interactive Inspection Tool

Forget printing out 10 pages of paper and fumbling with a clipboard in the parking lot. We created a mobile-friendly web app that puts the entire inspection process in your pocket.

With the Jowua Delivery Tool, you can:

  • Select your exact vehicle (Model 3, Y, S, X, or Cybertruck).

  • Inspect by Zone (Exterior, Interior, Electronics).

  • Log Issues directly on your screen.

  • Generate a Report to show your Tesla Advisor instantly.

The "Top 5" Things to Check Immediately

While our tool covers over 40 specific points, here are the top 5 "deal-breakers" you should look for first:

1. The "Flush" Test (Door Handles & Charge Port) Run your hand over the door handles and charge port door. They should sit perfectly flush with the body. If they stick out, it creates wind noise and drag.

2. Glass Alignment (Roof & Windshield) Check the gaps around the glass roof. If the glass is misaligned, it can lead to wind noise or, worse, water leaks during a car wash.

3. The 5-Second Restart Jump in the driver's seat and hold both scroll wheels on the steering wheel for 5 seconds. Ensure the screen restarts and boots up correctly. A screen that flickers or fails to boot is a rare but immediate "refuse delivery" sign.

4. Emergency Door Releases Teslas have electronic door latches, but they also have manual emergency releases. Locate them (usually in front of the window switches) and pull them up to ensure the mechanical latch works smoothly.

5. The J1772 Adapter Open the trunk (or glovebox) and look for your J1772 adapter. This small plastic nozzle lets you charge at non-Tesla public stations. It’s supposed to be included—don’t leave without it!

Prefer a Paper Copy?

We know some people love the feeling of a pen and paper. If you prefer to print out your checklist, we’ve got you covered.

After You Accept Delivery

Once you’ve passed inspection and signed the paperwork, the real fun begins. The Model Y and Model 3 are amazing machines, but they are minimalist by design.

Most new owners immediately look to protect the high-traffic areas that Tesla leaves bare.

  • Protect the Screen: The touchscreen is the brain of the car. A Tempered Glass Protector prevents glare and fingerprints.

  • Save the Carpets: Tesla’s floor mats are basic (or non-existent in some trims). All-Weather Liners are a Day 1 essential.

  • Organize the Abyss: The center consoles are deep and dark. A Foldable Car Tray or organizer turns that space into usable storage.

Enjoy your new Tesla, and drive safe!
