Tesla Launches in India
Tesla has officially entered the Indian market, opening its first showroom in the country on June 15. This comes after years of delays due to local policies that impose high tariffs on imported cars.
The launch took place with Model Y, which starts at around $69,690 for the rear-wheel drive version and $78,990 for the long-range rear-wheel drive version. First deliveries are scheduled for the third quarter. The significant difference in price from those sold in North American, European and Asian markets is due to the fact that India imposes a high tariff on cars that are imported into the country. If Tesla registers strong demand for its cars, it may consider locating a manufacturing facility in the country in the future to ensure a lower selling price.

Impressively, these two Tesla models accounted for 43% of all EVs sold in the US in the second quarter. In Q2, US EV sales were down 6.3% year-over-year, reaching 310,839 units.

Owners of older cars can access the system via an over-the-air update if their car meets a number of hardware and software requirements. Grok is currently only supported on Tesla models equipped with an AMD infotainment processor and on-board software version 2025.26 or higher. A Premium Connectivity subscription or an active Wi-Fi connection is also required.
