Tesla continues its efforts to expand its global presence, setting up business in India and achieving new sales records in Australia and Norway. Welcome to the weekly news roundup with Jowua.

Tesla Sales Rise in Australia

Tesla reported strong sales results in Australia for May. Last month, the company achieved its highest monthly sales figures in the country this year. Tesla sold 3,897 vehicles, representing a 9.3% increase from May 2024. Of these, Model Y sales accounted for 3,580 units, making May the model’s best sales month since June 2024. The sales growth comes after a slowdown earlier in the year as Tesla retooled its production for the updated Model Y.

Tesla Boosts Norway Sales

Tesla continues to lead Norway with Model Y. In May, in the country was sold 2,344 units of the electric crossover SUV out of the company's 2,598 total monthly sales. That puts it first as the country's best-selling car. Tesla has sold 6,201 Model Ys thus far in 2025, well ahead of Toyota BZ4X and Volkswagen ID.4, which have sold 3,703 and 3,073 units, respectively.

Tesla has sold 7,600 vehicles in Norway for the year, second only to Volkswagen. VW holds 19.5% of the total EV market share for the year, while Tesla has 13.7%.

Tesla Refuses to Make Cars in India

Tesla has changed its strategy for entering the Indian market. Previously, the company was going to assemble cars for sale in the country, but has abandoned the plan. According to a statement by India’s Heavy Industry Minister, Shri Kumaraswamy, Tesla confirmed that it will enter the local market, but not through domestic production. The company will rely on imports, counting on a reduction in import duties on cars, which is still being worked out by the Indian government.

Tesla May Be Testing New, Affordable Car Model

New footage from a flyover of the Fremont factory, posted by Met God in the Wilderness on YouTube, showed a mysterious Tesla car on a test track. The car resembled Model Y, but was more compact. Its front and back were covered. The car drove on the track, and a Cybertruck drove behind it. At this point, it remains unknown whether this is a new model or a Model Y Performance.
