Tesla has officially entered the Indian market, starting a new chapter in its development and seeking approval for its Robotaxi service in Arizona—this and other news in today's news roundup with Jowua.

Tesla Launches in India

Tesla has officially entered the Indian market, opening its first showroom in the country on June 15. This comes after years of delays due to local policies that impose high tariffs on imported cars.

The launch took place with Model Y, which starts at around $69,690 for the rear-wheel drive version and $78,990 for the long-range rear-wheel drive version. First deliveries are scheduled for the third quarter. The significant difference in price from those sold in North American, European and Asian markets is due to the fact that India imposes a high tariff on cars that are imported into the country. If Tesla registers strong demand for its cars, it may consider locating a manufacturing facility in the country in the future to ensure a lower selling price.

Tesla Model Y & Model 3 Lead US EV Market in Q2 2025

Despite a decline in sales at the beginning of the year, Tesla Model Y and Model 3 continue to hold the position of the best-selling EVs in the US. The company sold 86,120 Model Ys, which became the best-selling EV in Q2 2025. It was followed by Model 3 with 48,803 units. Impressively, these two Tesla models accounted for 43% of all EVs sold in the US in the second quarter. In Q2, US EV sales were down 6.3% year-over-year, reaching 310,839 units.

Tesla Adds Grok to Its Cars

Tesla has begun rolling out Grok, the AI voice assistant developed by xAI, to its cars. According to the company’s website, all new cars built on or after July 12, 2025, will be equipped with Grok AI. Owners of older cars can access the system via an over-the-air update if their car meets a number of hardware and software requirements. Grok is currently only supported on Tesla models equipped with an AMD infotainment processor and on-board software version 2025.26 or higher. A Premium Connectivity subscription or an active Wi-Fi connection is also required.

Tesla Model Y Leads in Norway

Tesla continues to dominate Norway with its Model Y. Tesla reached a 54% year-over-year increase in new car registrations in June, according to the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV). Model Y was up 115% year-over-year.

Tesla Seeks to Expand Robotaxi in Arizona

According to a report from Bloomberg News, Tesla has begun talks with Arizona transportation regulators to certify its self-driving service Robotaxi in the state. The Arizona Department of Transportation confirmed to the news outlet that Tesla has approached the state about starting the certification process for self-driving ride-sharing services.
